Proud Of East Texas: Greenberg Turkeys

When the holidays roll around in East Texas, more chance than not, there'll be a lucious Greenberg Smoked Turkey on the table. The Greenberg Smoked Turkey has been a holiday tradition for more than sixty-five years.

Although Zeleck Greenberg's father smoked turkeys for family and friends, it was Zeleck who turned his Mother's recipe into a business in 1940. Zeleck's son, Sam, is now President of the company, which ships out over two hundred twenty thousand smoked turkeys annually to buyers in every state of the union, including some pretty high profile customers.

Top gourmet magazines had discovered Greenberg Smoked Turkeys in years past, featuring them numerous times with descriptions such as "The Holiday Aristocrat" and "The Cadallac of Smoked Turkeys." But when Oprah Winfrey featured the turkey as one of her favorite foods on "The Oprah Winfrey Show", this tasty bird became even more of a national sensation, a sensation long appreciated by East Texans.
