LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested a 31-year-old woman on Wednesday after she allegedly got into an argument with her boyfriend, choked him, and tried to stab him with a kitchen knife.

Delilah Beatrice Hendrix, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bail has been set at $3,000.

Sgt. David Casper, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, said that the victim told police that Hendrix got angry with him when he tried to end his relationship with her. As the man was trying to leave the residence in the 700 block of Clark Ave., Hendrix allegedly grabbed him to prevent him from doing so,

At first Hendrix grabbed the victim around the waist, and then she grabbed him around the neck and started choking him, Casper said. The victim told police that he had to bite Hendrix on the arm to make her let him go.

After the victim managed to break free, he started walking toward the door again and Hendrix approached him with a kitchen knife Casper said. At that point, the victim grabbed a fire poker and a small stereo to defend himself.

“He stated that the suspect attempted to stab him with the knife, but he was able to hit her hand with the stereo,” Casper said. “He was then able to get out of the residence and go to the police department.”

When Lufkin Police officers talked to Hendrix, she gave them a similar account of the events. However, she told police the argument started over her asking the victim for money. She also said the victim grabbed the poker and the stereo and threatened, adding that she only grabbed him by the neck after he pushed her.

“She said that the victim attempted to leave but that she grabbed him,” Casper said. “Her story was consistent with the victim’s other than she did not admit to having a knife.”

Hendrix was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and transported to the Angelina County Jail.
