QUITMAN, TX (KLTV) - A 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged with tampering with evidence after two young girls were found dead in a Quitman apartment on Thursday.

Thomas Wayne Liles of Quitman was booked into Wood County Jail on Thursday, according to county records. He was arrested for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. He is in jail on a $25,000 surety bond.

According to Quitman Police Chief Kelly Cole, a male caller reported that two little girls, ages 2 and 3, were not breathing and he couldn't wake them up. An officer was dispatched to the Dogwood Villa apartment complex in Quitman. When he arrived, both girls were dead.

Chief Cole also said that officers get called out to that particular complex frequently, and that they were indeed at the complex earlier in the week. However, he said they were not dispatched to the unit Liles and the children and their mother live in. He said some of the residents of the apartment did come out when police were there, however.

Several unmarked vehicles were seen at Dogwood Villa apartments on Thursday evening, where officials were going in and out of the apartment where the two girls were found. Investigators could be seen cutting carpet from the apartment complex. A tarp was placed over the apartment to block the view as officials worked on the scene.

A crime scene photographer could be seen taking pictures near the apartment.

The Texas Rangers are involved in the investigation, which is ongoing.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
