Freedom Fighters: Jim Pitts

TIMPSON, TX (KLTV) -

Jim Pitts, who joined the Army at 16-years-old, was awarded a Bronze Star for heroic actions in Korea.

Even though Pitts was in battle every day he was in Korea, he received only a minor hand wound. However, the accident Pitts and his wife Pat were involved in years later was anything but minor. They were broadsided by another car, killing Jim's wife, Pat, and giving him multiple life threatening injuries, leaving him unconscious for 31 days.

Pitts eventually healed and has rebuilt his life, saying "it's good to be alive".
