Kingsport home destroyed in tornado

Posted: Updated:
KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) -  Video sent into us by a viewer shows a tornado moving swiftly through the Rock Springs Road area in Kingsport. In the blink of an eye, that tornado left this home in pieces.

Leslie Kendrick, her boyfriend, and two children lived inside the home that was left destroyed after Sunday's tornado.

"My house is completely gone as you can see so I have to make other arrangements," said Kendrick.

Kendrick tells us none of them were inside the home during the twister, but the first thing she went looking for when she pulled into the driveway was her dog.

"I ran to the house screaming and I looked and he was gone, he wasn't anywhere, about 10 minutes later he came running out of the house," said Kendrick.

Just hours after the tornado it was difficult for homeowner JJ Barrett to talk about the destruction.

"Its a tear jerker," said Barrett.

Barrett says he is just thankful nobody was hurt.

"Praise the Lord that nobody was home," said Barrett.

As friends and family helped Kendrick salvage what they could, she says right now its all about putting one foot in front of the other.

"I know that everything will work out and prayers are appreciated," said Kendrick.

A power pole across the street from the home was also destroyed. Around 11p.m. Sunday we found crews still out on the scene working to fix that pole.
