LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Woodland Heights Medical Center is now offering the world's first and only commercially available subcutaneous implantable defibrillator.
This device allows doctors to implant a defibrillator under the skin instead of attaching it to the heart.
They hope by bringing this advanced technology to the area it will better benefit those East Texans who need it.
“I think it is an exciting piece of technology, I think it came out just a few years ago, only a few hundred cases have been done worldwide. We are excited that we are able to offer this in Lufkin at Woodland Heights and hopefully the patient will benefit from it,” said Woodland Heights cardiologist, Dr. Rohit Kedia.
Woodland Heights also earned a Gold Seal of approval from The Joint Commission, for their quality care in heart failure and chest pain.
“To be specially certified in heart failure and chest pain means you have gone above and beyond in making sure that you hit those quality standards,” Woodland Heights Media Spokesperson, Jennifer Stevens said.
The Joint Commission's disease -specific care certification program is designed to evaluate clinical programs for their quality care.
