HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - Hunting season is right around the corner, but before you get out all of your hunting gear you might want to make sure you take hunters education course first.
The State of Texas requires all hunters born after September 1971 to complete a hunters education course before they hunt.
This course teaches hunters the safety and ethics of hunting.
Patsy and Wally Dunks are hunter education instructors and have found a unique way to make sure hunters are getting the most out of the course.
"We do a lot of things to make it very interesting to them, like we actually go on a make believe hunt where they get to decided whether it is a shoot or not shoot situation and things like that," Patsy Dunks said.
Patsy also said because of this education course the number of hunting related deaths has gone down significantly.
The education course is four hours long and only cost $15.
