LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Around 50 members of Lufkin’s first Baptist Church spent Wednesday afternoon packing 10,000 meals that will be sent to Africa and dispersed to orphan homes.

According to the Meals 4 Multitudes, 11.5 million people in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya are affected by famine.

The group works with churches around Texas. With enough volunteers, organizers say they can pack the 10,000 meals in two hours.

"The meals for multitudes packets contain protein, vegetables and vitamin enriched chicken broth,” Jim Palmer said. “They are specifically designed to help malnourished children regain their health."

This was the second time the church has helped with the project.
