Street lights go up on Barksdale Blvd. in S. Bossier City

New street lights have been erected on HWY 71. New street lights have been erected on HWY 71.
BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - A large portion of Barksdale Boulevard will no longer be dimly lit at night in South Bossier City.  Crews could be seen setting up streets lights in the grassy medians of Highway 71 Saturday afternoon.

The lights will brighten the road stretching from the intersection of the West Gate of Barksdale Air Force Base and LA 3032 to the intersection of LA-511 and Highway 71.

The city kick-started the Hwy. 71 Lighting Project January 8 of last year by entering into a cooperative endeavor agreement with the State of Louisiana and Division of Administration Facility Planning and Control.

The Bossier City Council then moved the project along when they approved an ordinance October 15, 2013 to hire Johnson and Pace Inc. to provide professional engineering services for the design and construction services for the street lighting project. The design fee was $65,000.

The State of Louisiana Legislature appropriated $780,00 for the project from the capital outlay project funds.
