LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Diana Boucher is a single mom raising two girls, 10- year- old Autumn and 5-year-old Jaelyn.
Boucher said each year her daughters look forward to back to school shopping, but this year it's something that she hasn't been looking forward to doing.
"I am not currently working,"Boucher said.
She further explained that every dollar spent on items like folder, scissors, pencils can be a financial burden. When it comes to bigger items, it’s something she has to think twice about .
"The average cost of pack back is like $56 bucks and if you got two kids everything can add up to a couple hundred dollars,” Boucher said.
Sunday her prayers were answered. Lufkin First Assembly Church handed out a couple hundred back packs with school supplies in them. One by one families lined up.
Organizer Alvin VanderLeest said Sundays back to school drive was a huge success.
"We saw a lot of kids that had smiles on their face while putting on their backpacks and heading out the door, VanderLeest said.
The girls said they are now ready and eager to start the school year.
