(RTM/CNN) - A Malaysian Navy vessel carrying sonar technology has embarked for the southern Indian Ocean to search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

The equipment will allow search teams to map the ocean floor at a depth of 7,000 meters.

It has been nearly five months since MH370, a passenger jet with 239 people on board, vanished from radar. It was scheduled to travel from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, China.
