HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Hudson Police Department arrested a 26-year-old man on Tuesday morning in connection to the six pit bull puppies that were found locked inside a hot car on July 28.

According to Hudson Police Chief Jimmy Casper, Matthew John King, of Lufkin, was arrested and charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, which is a Class A misdemeanor charge. Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge. Casper said Officer Joe Burton arrested King in the south part of Lufkin at approximately 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The pit bull puppies were put up for adoption on the morning of August 1 this morning, and within a few hours, all but one found homes. The one remaining puppy is in foster care waiting to be adopted.

Casper said officers were called out to the Hudson Green Apartments around 10:45 a.m. on July 28 in reference to report of crying puppies found in a car.

"Bystanders told us that the vehicle had been there all night and that they heard puppies inside,” Burton said. “I arrived and found the six puppies in the car with all the windows up.”

When the puppies arrived at the animal shelter in Lufkin, workers were surprised the puppies were responsive.
