TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Trinity County authorities are searching the Trinity River for a man who they believe jumped off the bridge on State Highway 19 in a suicide attempt.

Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace said that they are calling in a dive team because the sonar images from the river revealed some images out of the ordinary.

"We're quite confident at this point that we're doing a recovery effort to find the body that may have fell into the water or jumped into the water last night or early this morning," Wallace said.

Wallace said a Houston woman told them that after she got into an argument with her husband Tuesday night, he took off. His car was found on the Trinity River bridge on Highway 19 Wednesday morning.

Blood was found all over the interior of the car, Wallace said. In addition, a blood trial led from the car to the bridge and over the side.

Wallace said even though, based on the evidence, it looked as though someone slit his or her wrists inside the car, Trinity County authorities are treating the incident as a possible homicide.

"We don't know if there's even a body yet. We're just assuming based on the facts of what we got. We don't know what happened yet. We're just trying to put everything together," Wallace said.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and Texas Parks & Wildlife game wardens are also at the scene. Several boats are out in the water of the Trinity River as the search for the missing continues.
