NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (News Release) - A Nacogdoches man has been arrested on two counts of indecency with a child and was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail late Tuesday night.

Deputies received a complainant from child protective services of a child that had made an outcry to a parent of being assaulted. A forensic interview was conducted of two children at the Harold’s House in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Sheriff Bridges stated that both children are under the age of 8 years old and had been victimized at their residence by a family friend. The suspect, Aaron Burch was alone with the children at the time and babysitting them at the residence. Aaron Burch has been accused of pulling his pants down and exposing himself to both children. Burch also had both children perform lewd acts, sexual in nature in front of him.

Deputies conducted an investigation into the sexual assault and obtain warrants for the suspects arrest on Tuesday evening. Burch was found at a residence on County Road. 419 Tuesday night and was taken into custody.

It's a crime that happens more than anyone would ever expect and in fact the national center for victims of crime says 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 20 boys will experience some form of sexual abuse in their life time. 60% of those cases the perpetrator is a close family friend or someone the kids are very comfortable with.

"It's the people you trust, the child feels more comfortable with that person and it's easier for them to groom that child into doing what they want them to do," said Harold’s House Administrative Assistant, Madelyne Navarro.

Harold's House in Lufkin is a child advocacy group that helps children of sexual and physical abuse. They say there are some things parents should do before handing their child over to another person.

“First thing you should do is get a background check. Then when you are giving the family member or child care provider instructions, if they are not interested in what you have to say then that could be a first clue,” Navarro said.

“If your child or children aren't interested in going there or upset about going there then that should be a clue or if their behavior changes after they have left the babysitter," Navarro said.

They also want to advice parents to talk with their kids to make sure their kids know they can tell them anything.

“Make sure kids know that they are not going to get in trouble if they tell you anything. Keep a straight face you don't want them to think they are getting in trouble or that you are mad at them," Navarro said.

Navarro added that if your children do approach you about sexual or physical abuse, you should let law enforcement take over and to not take matters into your own hands.

“I wouldn't approach the perpetrator, if your child is showing any signs of the abuse then you want to be open with your child and call law enforcement and let the investigation go from there,” Navarro said.

Aaron Lee Burch 18 years of age was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail. His bond has been set at $75,000 for each charge. Burch has been charged with two 3rd degree felonies. Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that after reviewing all the evidence in the case, that one of the charges will be enhanced to a 2nd degree felony.

Burch remains in the Nacogdoches County Jail.
