POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - For the second time in two weeks, Polk County authorities have uncovered a large marijuana field in a heavily wooded area.
Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Byron Lyons said the six fields were discovered Tuesday after someone called in suspicious activity of FM 943, which is in the southeast corner of the county.
Lyons said they sent helicopters to locate the fields and set out Tuesday morning to harvest about 6,500 plants.
Lyons said they could not find anyone on the property, but that generators were running and food was cooking, evidence someone had just left the area. He said DPS dogs were unable to track down anyone.
Lyons said these fields have similarities in makeup from the fields harvest last week, but it is hard to tell if it was run by the same group.
Last week, authorities harvested 100,000 plants in the Goodrich area, which Lyons calls the biggest marijuana field bust in Texas history.\
