The Trinity County Sheriff says an arrest for theft led him to a second arrest after he intercepted a drug deal text while making the arrest on Wednesday.

Sheriff Woody Wallace said he had arrested Matthew Follis, 34, of Shepherd, on a theft charge. He said while he was booking Follis in the jail, Follis received a text.

Wallace said he asked him what the text was and Follis told him it was someone trying to sell him LSD. Wallace said he then went back to the place Follis was staying on FM 356 and found a man, later identified as Aaron Keith Cannon, 23, of Anderson, hanging out barefoot in a shed at the home.

Wallace said Cannon had 140 stamps laced with LSD.

"It's the first time I've ever made an arrest for LSD," Wallace said.

He said Follis admitted to loving "that stuff" and actually asked Wallace to bring him back a stamp to jail. Wallace told him no.

Cannon is charged with delivery of a controlled substance.
