NACOGDOCHES, TX (News Release) - NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin head football coach Clint Conque announced the addition of a pair of defensive players to the SFA roster. Former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields and freshman defensive back Tarrin Mitchell will begin competing with the `Jacks as SFA is in the first week of fall camp.
"I'm excited to be able to work with both of these young men as they both bring a great deal of talent to our defensive unit," Conque said. "They both bring a wealth of experience and knowledge at their respective positions and will provide some quality depth."
Fields, a 6-4, 250-pound defensive end, comes to SFA from TCU where he spent two seasons with the Horned Frogs, being named the Big 12 Freshman of the Year in 2012. Fields was named the conference's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year this season, despite playing just three games in 2013 due to injury. Fields started 14 of his 16 games in a Horned Frog uniform, tallying 57 tackles (34 solo), 20.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.
A four star recruit from Arlington Martin High School, Fields was a second team ESPN High School All-American, being named an all-state selection and was the District 4-5A Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. SFA is awaiting the official transfer release from TCU which would make Fields eligible to compete for the `Jacks this fall.

A three-star recruit out of Dallas Roosevelt High School, Mitchell was a two-time all-state honorable mention selection for the Mustangs, being ranked as the No. 91 cornerback nationally by ESPN.
The Dallas native was a two-time all-district selection, earning first team honors as a senior. He posted a career-best 66 tackles as a junior, including four forced fumbles and a pair of fumble recoveries, and was slated as one of the top 100 recruits in the DFW area by Vype Magazine.
