City of Diboll puts police chief on paid suspension

DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - The City of Diboll has suspended its police chief with pay until the city attorney completes his investigation into personnel allegations involving Ricky Conner.

Diboll City Manager Dennis McDuffie confirmed Conner's suspension Friday morning. The suspension went into effect Thursday at 1:30 p.m. He said the investigation by City Attorney Jimmy Cassels is expected to take one to two weeks.

In the interim, Steve Baker will serve as the acting chief of the Diboll Police Department.

The Diboll City Council named Conner police chief back in December 2011 after the position remained vacant for most of the year.

Conner started his law enforcement career in Diboll in 1980, and he worked there as an officer until 1990. He spent the next 20 years in law enforcement before he got his chance to return to his home town.
