LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A 57-year-old Lufkin woman died early Monday morning after being found at the bottom of a private pool Sunday evening.

According to the Lufkin police report, Patti Gayle Fougerousse died just after 4 a.m. after being taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital.

Police were called to the 100 block of Saint Andrews Circle at 6:30 p.m. According to Sgt. Mike Shurley, Fougerousse was visiting friends. The homeowner had gone inside to take a nap and his wife took a shower. The wife came back to the pool and told police she saw Fougerousse at the bottom of the pool on the deep end, which was between 12 and 15 feet deep.

Shurley said the wife woke her husband up, and he jumped in the pool and got Fougerousse out and performed CPR on her until medics arrived.

They took Fougerousse to a Lufkin hospital before she was taken to the Houston hospital.

Shurley said there does not appear to be foul play.

Fougerousse was the wife of Charles Fougerousse, a well-known retired obstetrician.

According to the full police report, which was released just before 6 p.m. Monday, an officer spoke to the woman who lived at the house, who said Fougerousse came over after they had made plans to get together. She said she, her husband, and Fougerousse had been drinking and that Fougerousse had a few glasses of wine and a margarita before the incident. The woman said she went inside the house to take a shower and to prepare a dinner. She said she went outside to check on Fougerousse because she did not see her in the shallow end. That is when she saw her in the deepest part of the pool.
