HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Lightning from a storm that blew through East Texas Monday night sparked a blaze that destroyed a house near Kennard.

Fire crews from four different Houston County volunteer fire departments battled the blaze for several hours before they got it under control. No one was injured in the fire.

David Lamb Jr., the Houston County fire marshal, said the fire started at approximately 6 p.m. after lightning struck a house located about a half mile east of Kennard on State Highway 7. When firefighters arrived on the scene, flames could be seen shooting out of the house, Lamb said.

The house was two years old, Lamb said.

The Crockett Fire Department, the Kennard Volunteer Fire Department, the Pennington VFD, the Belot VFD, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Houston County Sheriff's Office all responded to the fire.
