NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A driver and a passenger were transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital after a traffic violation stop turned violent.
Around 1:58 p.m. on Wednesday, a DPS trooper stopped a 2004 Nissan truck on FM 225 in Nacogdoches County for a traffic violation when the driver fled the scene . According to DPS spokesperson David Hendry, the trooper had to discharge his firearm in an attempt to disable the vehicle. When that failed, the trooper had no choice but to follow the suspect. After losing sight of the fleeing vehicle, the trooper later discovered the vehicle crashed into a tree. A Nacogdoches County Deputy Constable originally found the vehicle on CR 874, Hendry said.
But that wasn't the end of it. The vehicle had caught on fire, Hendry said, causing the driver and the passenger to be removed from the vehicle. There are no other details and the injuries of the two involved are unknown at this time.
The driver is facing a felony offense of evading law enforcement in a motor vehicle, Hendry said.
The incident remains under investigation.
