POLLOK, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Sheriff's Office is investigating a series of illegal dumping incidents.

On Thursday, investigators were looking into several bags tossed in Quail Creek and on Scotty Beard Road. All morning, county inmates assisted environmental investigator Donald Carroll on his investigation. Carroll said after spending hours sifting through the trash, they were able to get some leads as to who the trash may have belonged to at one of the locations.

"There was a check stub and a receipt with a license plate number, which verified the check stub name,” Carroll said.

If the trash weighs more than 5 pounds, the culprits could be charged with a Class B misdemeanor. Carroll also said on average, they tend to investigate 10 to 15 bags of illegal trash dumping a month.
