A transgender woman was arrested for simple robbery after she allegedly stole money from someone who answered a Craigslist ad she posted. Police said she may be responsible for several similar thefts.

Courtney Ashley (Brandon) Smalls, 25, was booked with Simple Robbery on Monday. The incident took place at about 6:35 p.m. in the 5100 block of Bundy Road.

Police said the victim contacted Smalls after reading a post on Craigslist about a mobile phone for sale. A meeting was set, and during the meeting the victim examined the phone to make sure it worked. After the victim gave the phone back and pulled out cash to pay for it, Smalls allegedly snatched the money and fled.

The victim called police with a description of Smalls and the vehicle she fled in. An officer located the vehicle at a gas station in the 8100 block of Bullard and apprehended Smalls without incident.

During booking Smalls was found to be wanted for three separate counts of simple robbery and one count of theft. Smalls was previously arrested in Jefferson Parish.

Anyone who thinks they've been scammed by Smalls or anyone else in a Craigslist theft is asked to contact Seventh District Investigations at (504) 658-6077.
