SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 24-year-old Elkhart woman died in a two-vehicle accident on State Highway 87 three miles north of Center Saturday afternoon. Two other people were seriously injured in the accident.
According to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred at approximately 2:25 p.m. Saturday. The preliminary investigation indicated that a 16-year-old boy from Shelbyville was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus south on SH 87 when he veered into the northbound lane and struck a 2009 Dodge Durango driven by Christopher Bryan Green, 28, of Elkhart.
Green's passenger, Heather Elaine Green was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Jim Powers.
The 16-year-old was transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, and Christopher Green was transported to LSU Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. Both individuals were listed in serious condition, according to the press release.
The press release stated that Christopher Green was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. Heather Green and the 16-year-old boy were not.
"The identity of the 16-year-old is not being released at this time, due to possible charges pending the outcome of the investigation," the press release stated. "This crash is still under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time."
