Friends, family and community leaders showed up to Jacyees Field in Nacogdoches Wednesday afternoon to pay tribute to 4-year-old Dane Shaw.

Shaw tragically died last June in a house fire. Ever since Shaw's death his parents had been looking for ways to remember him and decided that a playground in his memory was the best option.

So they partnered up with the Nacogdoches Park and Recreations. Shaw's parents, Alex and Justin Shaw, made a $40,000 donation  to create a playground for kids just like her son.

“We really wanted to keep Dane's spirit alive and we just figured that this was the best way,” Said Alex Shaw. "Having the playground for all the kids to enjoy, they will know who Dane Shaw is.”

The customized playground is a little over 1,000 feet and has three slides,a monkey bar and drum set attached to it. In addition to Wednesday's ribbon cutting, the mayor of Nacogdoches designated June 2 as Dane's day.
