PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A registered sex offender with three prior convictions was arrested Wednesday night after allegedly exposing himself in front of an 8-year-old school girl, police said.

The girl, who had just gotten off her school bus at around 1 p.m., hurried home and told her father.

The girl said she had been walking home when 62-year-old Danny Jones pulled up, stopped and opened the driver's side door, according to Phoenix police Officer James Holmes. Holmes said Jones wasn't wearing any pants and began performing a sex act.

Upon hearing what had happened, the girl's father jumped into his vehicle, drove to the scene and began following the suspect in the area of 1300 W. Campbell Avenue, Holmes said.

Jones drove his pickup to another neighborhood in the area of 19th Avenue and Indian School Road, where the girl's dad saw him drive slowly near another young school girl dressed in a school uniform, Holmes said.

Jones for some unknown reason suddenly sped away and the father lost sight of him, but not before he was able to get the suspect's license plate number.

The father contacted Phoenix police and a records check on the vehicle led officers to connect the vehicle to Jones.

Police detectives went to Jones' home and waited for his return. At around 6:30 p.m., a patrol officer saw Jones' vehicle in the area of his house driving on the wrong side of the road, Holmes said. The officer pulled the vehicle over.

Jones admitted to being in the area where the victim had been walking, Holmes said. He also admitted to being in his truck naked.

Jones was later booked into jail on one count of indecent exposure.
