TRINITY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Trinity man who watched his wife go to jail after she was accused of locking her children inside their home so they could go to a bar has had the same charge filed against him.

Jail records show Mark Skinner was booked on two charges of second-degree abandoning a child on Sunday.

According to the Sheriff Woody Wallace, deputies discovered Skinner and his wife, Crystal Leanna Fry, 23, were at Steel Horse Saloon, which is located on State Highway 94, near the Angelina County line. Knowing they had warrants for their arrest on a theft charge, deputies went there to arrest them on Aug. 16.

It was not until they booked out of jail the next day that authorities learned about a new allegation against the couple. Wallace said someone told them that as Fry was about to be arrested, she whispered to someone in the bar to take her keys and meet her mother at the house, because her children were there.

Wallace estimated the couple had left the children, a one-year-old and a three-year-old, at the house for more than an hour. He said witnesses said the couple used a padlock to keep them inside and from getting out.

Fry was arrested on the new charges on Wednesday. He said they decided to file the charges against Skinner after they learned they were legally married and determined with the DA's office that charges should be filed.
