CENTER, TX (KTRE) -

While most everyone knows about Memorial Day and Veterans Day as a time to remember those who served in war, the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization takes time on 21 different days of the year to remember those who served.

On Friday, the VFW in Center will hold a special memorial service for those who lost their lives in the Iraq war.

For those involved, they say it is a special moment when veterans across the country come together for their fallen soldiers.

“People in their local communities, serving in the Iraq war or wherever they served,” said Larry Hume, the post commander for the VFW Chapter in Center. “That's what makes it special, so they are not forgotten. Without remembrance, service and sacrifice would be meaningless.”

The service will be at 10 a.m. this Friday at the War Memorial on the square by the historic Shelby County Courthouse.
