ONALASKA, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Onalaska Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man Monday night in connection to allegations that he and a juvenile tried to rob a stranded motorist with a BB gun and a toy rifle on Aug. 17.
According to Chief Ron Gilbert of the Onalaska Police Department, OPD officers responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the Impala subdivision on Aug. 17. A woman told officers that after she got her car stuck in the ditch, she became nervous.
"She said these two guys came running out of the woods," Gilbert said. "One put a BB gun in her face, and the other put a play rifle in her side, demanding money."
Gilbert said the two suspects didn't get away with any money or property.
One suspect was identified as Jonathan Mitchell of Onalaska. He was charged with aggravated robbery, which is a felony. His bail was set at $100,000.
The other suspect in the attempted robbery is a juvenile. Gilbert said charges are pending on him as well.
Onalaska Police officers were able to tie the duo to the crime after Mitchell allegedly sent the woman a Facebook message apologizing for what they did, Gilbert said. The woman told police that she knew the two suspects.
