LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - After more than 50 years of work in the grocery business, A long time Brookshire Brothers employee is calling it quits.
Lufkin's Chestnut Drive store director Jerome Lair will retire at the end of the week. Lair first started working when he was 14 years-old, and joined Brookshire Brothers in 1977 as a manager trainee.
At Lair's retirement celebration, he thanked his family for putting up with the crazy schedule he was on.
"They are always just real patient, and have always been supportive for the time it takes to run a grocery store," Lair said. "Sometimes you leave in the dark and sometimes you come home in the dark."
Lair also said he will be working on his talent of singing. Lair is in a gospel quartet and is planning on releasing an album soon.
