SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - At 14-years-old and approaching 5ft. 10 inches tall, LaMonica Plater leads her AAU basketball team averaging just over 22 points per game. She's already been the buzz among the college ranks.

With every basket made, the Woodlawn freshman is paving the way to her future.

"I've come a long way," she said.

From being MVP as a member of the Shreveport Lady Ballers AAU basketball team, to also getting medal after medal in track and field, LaMonica's family is extremely proud of her success.

LaMonica's grandmother Debbie Plater said, "She's just a, just a gifted child."

While most high school freshmen are worrying about just finding their next class, Lamonica has already received letters from colleges including Georgia State and even Louisiana Tech.  The letters even had LaMonica surprised.  "I just started jumping up and then I started talking to God and telling him thank you."

Debbie added, "She's been in church ever since she's been in this world so we know that God has his hands on her life."

Faith and family are two things LaMonica holds dear to her heart as a member of the praise dance team at her church.

She said, "If you don't have God in your life then he can't help you. I just think about God when I'm praise dancing and let it all go."

"Praise dancing helps her to express herself and not only to God but to others that are around her," Debbie said.

And, with the foundation laid, the blue print to success seems is as clear as day for LaMonica.  She simply said, "God."

As she accepted her Landers Dodge Chrysler Jeep Athlete of the Week trophy LaMonica said, "Thank you I want to first thank God. I want to thank my mom, my dad, my grandma and my whole family."
