NORTHPORT, AL (WBRC) -

Northport's police chief, Kerry Card, has retired after more than 30 years with the department.

City administrator Scott Collins said the search for a new chief won't likely happen for several more months.

In the interim, Assistant Police Chief Gerald Burton is in charge of day-to-day operations within the department. Collins said there is no timetable set for opening up the chief's position.

He added that the city will first search internally for a new chief.
