Columbus church gives clothing to community members in need

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus church continues its tradition of reaching out to the community, and on Saturday, Aug. 30, they did that by giving away clothing to needy families.

The Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church worked all morning to prepare the donated clothing, and allow residents to see what they had to offer.

Pastor Marcus Gibson says it's the church's duty be a positive light in the Columbus community which has dealt with so much adversity in reason weeks.

"We just want to continue to encourage everyone in our Columbus community," Gibson says. "We know, in light of all of the widespread violence that's been going on here, that there are still good things being done to alleviate that and to encourage an improvement of communal relations with all of us within the fountain city."

He also says the giveaway is a part of the church's objective to help one another. They hold the clothing drive periodically throughout the year in conjunction with other community events.
