LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - People from all over the world were at the George H. Henderson Expo Center in Lufkin on Saturday for the Havard horse fall consignment sale.
This sale has been brining in buyers and sellers from around the world for more than 40 years.
Michael Swaim drove 5 hours from Tilden, Texas for a sale he has been coming to for years.
"I have been coming here for 25 years," Swaim said.
Swaim said throughout the year the drive is well worth it.
"The sale has got a better price, you can get a horse for a better price than the other sale. For me I mean I can take them and make money on them," Swaim said.
However, it's not always the price that keeps him coming back.
"It's in a good area, a good spot. It's a real neat sale, I love coming here," Swaim said.
It's clients like Swaim that bring in sellers like Jarrod Singleton, who drove all the way from Kentucky.
"We have good sales and we have a good client bases. People are happy [and] we have a lot of repeat business," Singleton said.
With growing client bases from sellers all around the state, this sale has grown into one of the largest in East Texas.
"We are probably the biggest consignment auction this far south," said horse trainer, Shawn Holden.
Every year the sale continues to grow bringing more and more people.
"There will be 500 to 1000 people that come to Lufkin just for this horse sale," Holden said.
Havard owner, Mike Pedersen hopes this sale will continue to grow as the years go on.
The Harvard consignment sale happens 4 times a year, the next sale is set for November 28th and 29th at the expo center.
