Victim identified in fatal accident at International Paper

Metro Police and officials at International Paper are working together to find out what caused the accident that took the life of 58-year-old Ricky Salter Sunday afternoon.
According to Mark keller, the spokesperson for Savannah Fire, Salter was working in the Riverside Paper Mill when he was involved in what "appears" to be an industrial accident.
"Firefighters commenced CPR. Life Star was dispatched over here, but unfortunately there was no need for it," said Keller. "The individual died at the scene."
Salter was a maintenance employee.
In a statement, International Paper said, "Ricky was a valued and respected member of our Savannah team and was an employee at our mill for more than two years. We are deeply saddened by the death of our team member and friend. Our thoughs and prayers go out to Ricky's family and friends."
The scene caught the attention of a lot folks, especially those playing golf at the Mary Calder Golf Club. They were on the course when Lifestar landed.
"We saw three or four ambulances, or something like that, then the fire trucks, then heard the helicopter," said Tra Teaster, the manager of the golf club. "We were watching and didn't really know what was going on."
There are still questions as to what actually happened, and officials are not releasing those details at this time, because the investigating is ongoing.
"Between the police department and the plant personnel, you should have a better understanding of what the actual site is, and what type of work was going on at the time that this accident occured," said Keller.
