NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches County Sheriff's deputies arrested two Pennsylvania men on third-degree felony possession of marijuana charges after a traffic stop on South Street late Sunday night.

Frederick Ryan Battle, 29, and Everett Lavon Norten, 26, both of Erie, Pennsylvania, are both still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail. Both men were charged with possession of marijuana between 5 and 50 pounds. No bail amount has been set for either man at this time.

Sgt. Johnwayne Valdez with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office said he stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 3500 block of South Street at approximately 10:27 p.m. After the deputies made contact with the two men in the vehicle, Batten and Norten gave conflicting stories.

Valdez said they got consent to search the vehicle and allegedly found three suitcases in the trunk area. One suitcase was much heavier than the other two, and when they opened it, they found what appeared to be marijuana wrapped in green cellophane, Valdez said. The NCSO sergeant said the marijuana weighed approximately 13 pounds.

The two men were arrested at the scene and transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
