Former Polk Co. Sheriff's Office narcotics detective died of gunshot wound

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

On Thursday, a Cherokee County official confirmed that Randy Turner, a former narcotics detective with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, died as a result of a gunshot wound.

Turner died in the Bullard area on Aug. 23. Captain John Raffield said that Turner died as a result of a gunshot wound. Raffield said, at this time, they don't know if the gunshot wound was self-inflicted.

The incident is still under investigation.

Turner was also a K9 handler for PCSO, and he served as a sniper for the Polk County Special Response Team. He resigned two weeks before his death.
