Pelle Legna Vineyard is a beautiful place, located atop rolling green hills and populated by contented cows and horses nibbling grass and wandering near the ponds, and acres of beautiful grape vines, studded with fruit, heavy with juice.
And it's right here in East Texas.
Pelle Legna Vineyard is the dream and passion of Dawn Leatherwood brought to life. She and her husband Harry Leatherwood own Rio Neches Ranch in Smith County, not far from Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, and have graciously hosted charity events like Cattle Barons there over the years. When Dawn expressed to Harry her desire to plant grapes and make her own wine from them, he encouraged her to live her dream. She named it Pelle Legna, Italian for "leather" and "wood", and she went to work.

It took helpful guidance from other local vintners, like Pierre de Wet of Kiepersol Estates, as well as countless hours of blood, sweat and tears, but Dawn now sells, quite literally, the fruits of her labors: Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cab Franc, Sangiovese, Mourvédre, Malbec, Grenache, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc.
And people approve. Dawn's wines are a hit, and are now sold in various locations around East Texas, and shipped to other locations around the world.
