NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A 44-year-old former Stephen F. Austin State University Athletic Department employee was arrested Tuesday in connection to allegations that she stole $8,821.56.

Diana Sanchez Cummins, of Ennis, was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail on a state-jail felony theft between $1,500 and $20,000 charge. She posted a $5,000 bail and was released from the jail later Tuesday.

According to the arrest affidavit, Cummins is accused of unlawfully appropriating property during a period from Dec. 1, 2013 to July 29, 2014.

A SFA University Police officer was dispatched to the Athletic Department located at 712 Hayter on Aug. 27 in reference to a theft complaint. He was told that Cummins had been responsible for receiving money and reconciling statements for the Athletic Department.

After Cummins resigned from her position, an SFA audit revealed that $8,821.56 was unaccounted for, the affidavit stated.

Cummins allegedly admitted to the offense when she was interviewed by a detective on Sept. 4

Shirley Luna spokesperson for SFA said Cummins actions were quite a surprise.

"We have a program at SFA called the SFA way and its all about ethical behavior and demonstrating integrity in your every day lives," said Luna. " It's what we expect of our students  and of course we expect the same thing from SFA employees."
