LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The race is on to find new participants for this year's "Race for Success" at Slack Elementary. Last year, Junior Achievement of Angelina County recruited around 220 participants for the race and are hoping to bring in even more this year.

"We're so excited about our second annual Race for Success, and we're gearing up. We've got most of our sponsors secured. Our registrations are coming in and I'm excited to be able to host this again at Slack Elementary," said Michelle Green, the executive director of Junior Achievement.

There will be a 5K, 10K, and half-marathon. Running isn't a requirement, Green said, and participants can opt to walk at their own pace.

"Junior Achievement is all about empowering students. We tie education into our race so we're thankful that all five courses, the 5K, the 10K, and the half-marathon will start and end at Slack," Green said.

This year's race is sponsored by Whataburger, Lufkin Coca-Cola, Ge Oil & Gas, Crown Colony, 91.9 KAVX, Courtyard Marriott, and the Lufkin Convention and Visitors Bureau. All proceeds will be donated to the kids of Angelina County, Green said.

The race is on November 1 and early bird pricing ends on October 1.
