Authorities arrest 2 following Beard's Jewelers burglary

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Two Houston men are in jail following a break-in at Beard's Fine Jewelers in Lufkin early Tuesday.

Lufkin police spokesman Sgt. Mike Shurley said they received notification of a burglar alarm at the store, located at 2000 South First St., around 2:30 a.m. Surveillance footage showed two suspects and a BMW on the scene.

Shurley said the men used a landscaping rock to break through the door and a hammer to break into the display case. They then grabbed watches inside the case and left.

Shurley said they put out a bulletin on the vehicle description and Diboll police found the car and pulled it over. He said the suspects matched the description and the stolen watches were in the car.

Arrested were Kevin Charles Wilson Jr., 26, and DeQuan Janeiro Rodgers, 19.

Shurley said they are investigating whether the two men are connected to similar burglaries in the area, like at the Crockett Radio Shack and the Livingston Radio Shack.
