Juvenile Waits For Detention Hearing

by Donna McCollum

A Nacogdoches High School student under arrest for making a "copycat" bomb threat involving the Nacogdoches County Courthouse remains in a Marshall juvenile detention center. He has one more night there before finding out Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. if he can be released to his parents.

The bomb threat was placed December 2nd and was traced to the high school's pay phone. Nacogdoches ISD police initially didn't think there was enough evidence to arrest the student.

School police allowed him to go home Monday morning, even though Sheriff Thomas Kerss had filed a detention order. The sheriff had deputies pick the boy up late in the day. Sheriff Kerss says he's confident the right man is under arrest.

On Tuesday, NISD Police Chief Doug Ploch said the agency is in agreement. Ploch said, "The problem is [that] we have four different agencies working the same case. This sometimes causes miscommunication."

The agencies have established that the sheriff's department is the lead agency in this case.
