LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 43-year-old man on a burglary of a habitation charge after a home owner went by to check on a home that had already been burglarized in the past two weeks and spotted a man leaving the house.

Darrell Dewayne Rogers, of Lufkin, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation. No bail amount has been set at this time.

According to Lt. David Young, a spokesman for the Lufkin Police Department, the home owner went to check on a house in the 2100 block of Paul Street that had been burglarized twice in the past two weeks. When he got there at about 11 p.m. Tuesday, the home owner spotted a man leaving the house as he approached.

“A suspect matching the description provided by the homeowner was located a few blocks away by responding officers,” Young said. “The man was found to be in possession of a backpack and other miscellaneous items from the complainant's house.”

Rogers' arrest record dates back to 1993, according to the Angelina County Jail Website. He has been arrested for a variety of charges including possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, theft of service, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and numerous burglary of a vehicle and burglary of habitation charges.
