NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches County was listed among the top 20 US counties with the highest income inequality in an article that appeared on the "Huffington Post" Website Monday.
Ranked No. 3 on the list behind Putnam County, Tennessee and New York County, New York, Nacogdoches County was one of only three Texas counties to make the list.
According to the Huffington Post article, the rankings were compiled using the US Census Bureau's 2012 American Community Survey and the Gini coefficient, "which is a statistical measure of the gap between the rich and the poor."
"The index is based on a scale from 0 to 1, where 0 represents total equality and 1 represents total equality," the Huffington Post article stated.
The article stated that the income inequality was more prevalent around big cities like Manhattan, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
