50-year-old Louisiana woman dies in 3-vehicle accident near Joaquin

SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A 50-year-old Simmesport, Louisiana woman died in a three-vehicle accident on State Highway 84 five miles west of Joaquin Thursday morning.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a three-vehicle accident. The preliminary investigation revealed that Bendrick Duane Moye, 36, of Overton, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer rig east on SH 84 when a westbound 2012 Chevrolet pick driven by Dana Bordelon Guilbeau crossed the center line and struck the 18-wheeler head on at approximately 10:44 a.m. Thursday.

The third vehicle involved in the accident was a westbound 2013 Chevrolet pickup driven by Richard Leroy Gilbert, 74, of Lufkin. Gilbert's vehicle was struck by Guilbeau's vehicle after it struck the 18-wheeler.

Guilbeau was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Larry Jones at 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Moye was transported to East Texas Medical Center-Carthage for treatment of unknown injuries.

Gilbert was not injured in the wreck, the press release stated.

The accident is still under investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
