LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The 24th Annual Jack McMullen Silver Spike Award was handed out Friday. The award went to a Leadership Lufkin graduate who has made a difference in the city.
This year's honor went to Chris Moss with the Advance Financial Group.
Moss is a native of Lufkin and a Texas A&M University graduate. He graduated from Lufkin High School in 1991. A member of the Leadership Lufkin Class of 2002, Moss was appointed to Teacher Retirement Services by Gov. Rick Perry.
Moss said he was shocked to find out at the ceremony that he won and that he thought the award was going to one of his co-workers.
"To know that I can be considered along with some of those folks that have done so much with this community and continue to do things for our community," Moss said. "I don't know that words can describe it, because Lufkin and Angelina County mean a lot to me."
Also on hand at the monthly chamber luncheon was a representative from Move Texas Forward who talked about the upcoming Proposition One vote next month, which, if passed, will authorize money from the state oil and gas production taxes to go toward the state highway fund.
