LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Police say a Lufkin man gave away his location after robbing a teenager of his cellphone outside the VFW Carnival Sunday night.

Makio Houston, 23, and Cornielus Lewis, 19, are charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Lewis is also charged with evading arrest and possession of marijuana.

According to the police report, two teenagers told police at 9 p.m. that they had been robbed while waiting for their ride to pick them up at the carnival. They said they had called for a ride from the carnival and were waiting by the entrance at the road near the large VFW sign. One of them said two men approached them and one asked if they had a ride, then asked if they had a cellphone. Then one of the men said, "This is what's going to happen," and pulled out a small semi-automatic handgun, racked the slide and told the teenager to give him the phone.

The teenager said he gave him the phone and the two men walked away. The teens then called for help. One of the teen's mothers said a relative called the teen's phone, which had just been stolen, and a man answered. The relative asked where they were and the man said, "Smokey T's." The relative then asked where and he answered, "in the bathroom."

Officers went to Smokey T's, located at 1114 E. Denman Ave., and said two men left the store and started to quickly walk around toward the east side and back of the store.

As officers started to approach them, they split up, with Houston going behind the store and Lewis going to the east side around a fence, according to the report.

One officer reported driving after Lewis, who began running away. The officer gave the command to stop and chased him from the front of an apartment complex, according to the report. Lewis then ran into a tall chain link fence and threw something into the woods. The officer was able to arrest Lewis and then go into the woods and found a silver handgun, which had been reported stolen about two to three hours earlier.

According to the report, a different officer was able to arrest Houston, who had a handgun tucked inside his pants. The officer was also able to find the stolen cellphone inside his hoodie, according to the report.

During this investigation, officers learned of a second robbery, involving the same suspects. According to another part of the report, two men said they were at the carnival when one realized he left his identification at home, so they decided to go home to get it so that they could get cigarettes. While they were leaving, one of them recognized Lewis, who he had known since he was a child. According to the report, the Lewis asked the m if he had a cigarette. The man said no, but he was on his way to get some. The man said Lewis said, "I got you" and he took that to mean Lewis would buy the cigarettes. He said they walked until the fence line when Lewis pulled a handgun and pointed it at the men and told them to give him his money. The man told his other friend, "come on" and Houston stepped in behind him and said, "You don't want to do that." The man said he gave Lewis $20 and he walked off.

Each are being held on bonds of more than $200,000.
