CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - A Houston County grand jury indicted a 20-year-old man last week in connection to allegations that he sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl while she was at her friend's house.
The East Texas News obtained the list of grand jury indictments Monday.
Zeante Washington was booked into the Houston County Jail on a second-degree felony charge of sexual assault of a child back in July.
When the officer arrived on the scene, the mother explained that several girls showed up at her house looking for her daughter because they wanted to fight her over Washington. The mom questioned her daughter about him and learned that Washington had been sending her daughter Facebook messages.
One of the messages stated that Washington wanted to hug and kiss the girl, the affidavit stated. After the mother questioned her daughter further, she learned that her child had been sexually assaulted, according to the affidavit.
The Crockett Police officer forwarded the case on to an investigator with the department. The mother, her daughter, and the investigator met at Harold's House in Lufkin. During the interview, the girl admitted that about a month ago, she was at her friend's house, and Washington was there at the same time.
The victim told the interviewer that her friend told her Washington wanted her to come to the bedroom. Once the girl entered the bedroom, Washington allegedly closed the door, pulled the girl's pants and panties down, and sexually assaulted her.
According to the affidavit, the victim told Washington to stop, but he refused. At some point, a male subject entered the room and punched Washington in the face, causing him to stop the alleged sexual assault.
A SANE exam was performed on the 10-year-old victim, and the nurse found injuries that were consistent with sexual assault.
The Houston County grand jury also indicted Jim Duane King, of Crockett, on a third-degree felony injury to a child charge that came about as a result of allegations that he came home drunk last summer, punched his 13-year-daughter, and then "body slammed" her because she didn't follow his orders.
When King was arrested, he was booked into the Houston County jail on the injury to a child charge, a Class A misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge, and Class B driving with license invalid charge.
In addition, the grand jury indicted Jason Kelley, of Crockett, on a first-degree felony aggravated robbery charge in connection to allegations that he robbed Mike's Corner Store last summer at gunpoint after he purchased two pieces of gum.
Authorities flooded the area with law enforcement officers in an attempt to catch Kelley. However, the next day, Kelley allegedly came to the Crockett Police Department and told officers, "I done something bad and want to turn myself in."
