LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An East Texas school's student council is implementing a new charity campaign, and it's because of a Youtube video.

An 11-year-old Youtube sensation known nationwide to youngsters as Kid President has inspired the student council at Lufkin's Brookhollow Elementary to start Socktober.

'Socktober' is a month-long sock and food drive.

It's an idea taken right from Kid president's Youtube videos and brought to life here in Lufkin.

Everything will be donated to local homeless shelters.

"If you do something for somebody else, you can like treat yourself, or it makes you feel better about yourself," Reundre Malone, a fifth grader at Brookhollow Elementary.

The goal is to collect $200 dollars, 200 pairs of socks, and 200 cans. Colorful boxes are set up all across campus for students and the community to drop off items.
