Animal caregivers and their pets received a special prayer at a 'Blessing of the Animals' service in Nacogdoches. Dogs of all sizes and breeds, one cat and even a turtle received the blessing.
The call to worship happened at Banita Creek Park. Just like crying babies, there were a few yappy dogs in the congregation. Pastors with the Nacogdoches Ministerial Alliance didn't miss a step as they read scripture and offered prayers.
"That affirms God's care for not only animals, but for God's care for all of creation," explained Rev. Kyle Childress, as he began his 25th year to participate in the service. "So now a days standards we might realize or sort of recover a sense that it's about environmental care. It's about caring for animals and about our right relationship in a peaceful reconciling way with all of creation."
Blessing of the Animals has been going on in Nacogdoches for over thirty years. The Nacogdoches County Humane Society sponsors it. Cub Scouts handed out dog treats after the service
